A little something chosen with you in mind

Petite denim

Petite jeans.
Rise first, hem second.

Most jeans fail on a shorter frame for the same two reasons. The rise sits low, so the torso reads long and the leg reads short. Then the hem lands somewhere unplanned and cuts the line in half. Get those two right and almost any leg shape works.

The four things that actually decide it

Rise

High or mid high. It moves the waistline up, shortens the visual torso and gives the leg more to work with. A low rise does the opposite on a shorter frame.

Hem

A straight or wide leg should skim the top of the shoe. A crop should finish above the widest part of the calf. Anything that lands mid calf shortens you.

Leg shape

Straight is the safest single line from waistband to floor. Wide and barrel legs work beautifully, they just need the length taken seriously.

Where the eye stops

Big back pockets, heavy fading at the knee and turn ups all create horizontal breaks. Fewer breaks, one longer line.

Asked all the time

What rise works best for petite jeans?
A high or mid high rise usually works best. It shortens the visual torso and hands the length back to the leg, which is the highest leverage move on a shorter frame.
Should petite women avoid wide leg jeans?
No. Wide leg jeans work when the hem lands right, roughly at the top of the shoe. The issue is length, not volume.
Where should petite jeans finish?
A straight or wide leg should skim the top of the shoe. A cropped pair should finish above the narrowest part of the ankle, so the break looks deliberate rather than accidental.
Are petite ranges worth buying?
Usually yes. A true petite range scales the rise, knee break and inseam together, rather than simply cutting length off the bottom of a regular pattern.
